Arlene Costello: Advancing Advocacy: Experiences from the TESOL International Advocacy and Policy Summit

How do you become influential advocates of English Learners (ELs) in this ever changing educational environment? In this session, Dr. Costello will offer helpful information and effective advocacy techniques and strategies which were presented by policy experts and TESOL professionals at the tenth annual Advocacy and Policy Summit held in Alexandria, VA in June 2016.

Your Voice: An Open Table Conversation on ESOL Insights

Audience: ALL

This interactive session is designed to explore your perspectives in pre-service, in-service, and as faculty members in learning and integrating knowledge and skills to effectively serve and instruct English Learners (ELs) in grades K-12, ESL, Teacher Education Programs, Intensive English Program and Adult Education Programs. The conversation and discussion will center on diverse topics such as: Development, Implementation, and Assessment. Arlene Costello coordinates the ESOL/Immigrant Program Initiatives and Grants/ Curriculum/ Instruction/ ESOL Training/Certification/Licensure and Compliance for Escambia County Schools. She serves on numerous ESOL, gifted, and education committees and boards on the local, state, and national levels. Dr. Costello has recently completed the Florida Department of Education WIDA Training for Trainers which prepared her to deliver professional development on the WIDA English Language Development Standards and Framework in Florida. Most recently, she represented the Sunshine State TESOL to the TESOL Advocacy and Policy Summit held in Alexandria, VA
